We may revise this Policy from time to time as we add new features or as laws change that may affect our services. If we make material changes to the Policy we will post notice of this on the Site. We include a version number on this Policy consisting of the date (year, month, and day) it was last revised. We encourage you to periodically reread this Policy to see if there have been any changes that may affect you. Please note that each revised Policy will apply both to information we already have at the time of the change and any information created or received after the change takes effect.
211 LA routinely gathers data on Site activity, such as how many people visit the Site, the pages they visit, where they come from, how long they stay on the Site, etc. The data is collected on an aggregate, anonymous basis, which means that no personally identifiable information is associated with the data. This data helps us improve Site content and overall usage. We may share this aggregate, non-personally identifiable information with third parties to demonstrate general use trends or similar statistics regarding the Site.
Except as disclosed in this Policy, we do not collect or use any personally identifiable information from visitors to the Site. Our policies, sources, and uses of personally identifiable information are outlined in Sections 1 through 8 that follow:
We maintain standard Web logs that record and may store data about visitors who use the Site. These logs may contain the Internet domain from which you access the Site (such as aol.com, abc.org, etc.); the IP address which is automatically assigned to your computer when you get on the Internet (a static IP address may be identifiable as being connected to you, while a dynamic address is usually not identifiable); the type of browser and operating system you use; the date and time you visited the Site; the pages you viewed on the Site; and the address of the Web site you linked from, if any. If you sign on to the Site to use features reserved for registered visitors, our Web logs will also contain an individual identifier and show the services you have accessed.
Web logs may only be accessed by 211 LA employees or designees (which may include vendors and contractors, as further described below) on a need-to-know basis for a specific purpose. 211 LA uses Web log information to help us design our Site, to identify popular features, to resolve user, hardware, and software problems, and to make the site more useful to visitors.
We may place Internet "cookies" on the computer hard drives of visitors to the Site. Information we obtain from cookies helps us to tailor the Site to be more helpful and efficient for our visitors. The cookie consists of a unique identifier. We may use two types of cookies, "session" cookies and "persistent" cookies.
A session cookie is temporary, and expires after you end a session and close your Web browser. We may use session cookies to help customize your experience on the Site, maintain your signed-on status as you navigate through our features, and to track your "click path" through our Web pages.
Persistent cookies remain on your hard drive after you've exited from the Site, and we may use them for several reasons. For instance, in order to "remember" a feature about you that is pertinent to your use of the Site, we may place a persistent cookie on your hard drive so that the next time you visit us, we won't have to ask you that information again. If you've given us permission to e-mail you with information about 211 LA services, or for other reasons, we may place a persistent cookie on your hard drive that will let us know when you come back to visit our site. We sometimes use this type of persistent cookie with a "Web beacon" (see below). Persistent cookies will not contain any personally identifiable information about you, such as an email address or user name.
You may have software on your computer that will allow you to decline or deactivate Internet cookies, but if you do so, some features of this site may not work properly for you. For instructions on how to remove cookies from your hard drive, go to your browser's Web site for detailed instructions. In addition, further information regarding cookies may be available on other Web sites or from your Internet service provider. Firefox and Internet Explorer are two common browsers.
We may also use "Web beacons" (also known as "clear gifs," "Web bugs," "1-pixel gifs," etc.) that allow us to collect information about your response to our e-mail communications, and for other purposes. Web beacons are tiny images, placed on a Web page or e-mail, that can tell us if you've gone to a particular area on our Site. For example, if you've given us permission to send you e-mails, we may send you an e-mail inviting you to use a certain feature on our Site. If you do respond to that e-mail and use that feature, the Web beacon will tell us that our e-mail communication with you has been successful.
Since Web beacons are used in conjunction with persistent cookies (described above), if you set your browser to decline or deactivate cookies, Web beacons cannot function.
We may periodically ask users to complete surveys asking about their experiences with features of the Site. Our surveys may ask visitors for demographic information such as age, gender, and education. We use survey information for research and quality improvement purposes, including helping 211 LA to improve information and services offered through the Site. In addition, users giving feedback may be individually contacted for follow-up due to concerns raised during the course of such evaluation. Also, note that demographic information and Web log data may be stored for future research and evaluation.
Comments, questions and other data sent to us using e-mail, messaging forms, transaction forms, or other communication methods made available through the Site will be shared with 211 LA staff who are most able to address your concerns (which may include vendors and contractors as further described in Section 8 below), may be stored for purposes of facilitating our provision of services to you in the future, and may be archived. Without limitation of the foregoing, this information may be used to: 1) fulfill requests for products, services or information, 2) provide customer services, 3) offer new products and services, 4) measure and improve the effectiveness of our Web sites, our marketing endeavors or our services and offers, 5) administer surveys, or 6) send marketing communications. Also, note that some of our services may interact directly with other 211 LA data systems and that your data may be stored in these systems and available to people who test and support these systems.
We may disclose personally identifiable information to any person performing audit, legal, operational, or other services for us. We will attempt to use information which does not identify the individual for these activities whenever commercially feasible. By way of example, 211 LA has engaged a subcontractor to verify and process credit card transactions and our subcontractor will receive personally identifiable information collected from you through the Site for the purpose of providing such services.
We may disclose personally identifiable information when required to do so by a subpoena, court order, or search warrant. We may disclose personally identifiable information as we deem it appropriate to protect the safety of an individual or for an investigation related to public safety or to report an activity that appears to be in violation of law. We may disclose personally identifiable information to protect the security and reliability of this site, to take precautions against liability and to enforce agreements with 211 LA.
211 LA reserves the right to transfer any and all information that we collect from users, or that we otherwise collect in connection with the Site, including, without limitation, to unaffiliated third parties or third parties, in the event of a sale or transfer of assets or of any portion of our business.
211 LA is committed to protecting the privacy of children. You should be aware that the Site is not intended or designed for use by children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information through the Site from persons under the age of 13.
The Site may contain links to other sites. Once you enter another web site through any link on the Site, be aware that 211 LA is not responsible for the privacy or security practices of such other sites, that such other sites may contain commercial advertising, and that your use of such other sites will be subject to the terms and conditions and policies applicable thereto. We encourage you to read the privacy polices and terms and conditions for any third-party site you visit and to critically assess each site's accuracy and credibility of content for yourself.
We seek to use reasonable security measures to protect the data that resides on our servers from loss, misuse or alteration. Unfortunately, no security system, or system of transmitting data over the Internet, can be guaranteed to be 100% secure. As a result, while we strive to protect your personal data, we cannot guarantee the security of our servers, the means by which data is transmitted between your computer and our servers, or any data provided to us. Please note that if, for reasons of ease and convenience, you choose to contact us through our website or by e-mail, the information you send to us may not be encrypted as it is transmitted over the Internet. If you have reason to believe that there has been any breach of the security of your personally identifiable information in connection with your use of the Site or related services, please contact us using the contact information in the "Questions, complaints, and contacts" section below.
Please remember that you are responsible for the security of any ids or passwords you create when through the Site; you should not share them with anyone. If you do share your id or password, you are providing access to your personally identifiable information. You agree to immediately notify us of any unauthorized use of your id or password.
This Policy applies solely to online information-gathering and dissemination practices in connection with the Site, and does not apply to any of our practices conducted offline.
This Policy is the sole authorized statement of 211 LA practices with respect to the collection of personally identifiable information via the Site and the usage of such collected information. Any summaries of this Policy generated by third-party software or otherwise (for example, in connection with the "Platform for Privacy Preferences" or "P3P") will have no legal effect, are in no way binding upon 211 LA, will not be relied upon in substitute for this Policy, and neither supersede nor modify this Policy.

Alternatively, when you receive materials from us by email or other communications you can make use of the "opt out" provision in such communications so that we know that you no longer wish to receive such materials from us.
